On Aug. 2, John Wheeler, an esteemed neighbor, raised three issues. Had these been accurate or true, even I would have trouble supporting John Kerry.
A concerned, intelligent and patriotic American, I believe Mr. Wheeler owes it to himself, his family and his country to search beyond the rhetorical fallacies, unsubstantiated allegations and illogical misstatements of his letter to find the facts. I’m optimistic that some serious study and reflection will lead him to support John Kerry.
Fact 1: Sen. John Kerry has cast a deciding vote against the party line to assert financial responsibility and a balanced budget.
Fact 2: “John Kerry is a gun owner and hunter, and both he and John Edwards support the Second Amendment right of law-abiding Americans to own guns. Like all of our rights, gun rights come with responsibilities, and John Kerry and John Edwards support mainstream measures to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists, enforcing the gun laws on the books, closing the gun show loophole, and standing with law enforcement officers to extend the assault weapons ban,” according to his campaign Web site.
Fact 3: President Kerry will work tirelessly to strengthen America and increase respect from abroad by exercising his competency in foreign relations restoring productive alliances. But, as he stated, he will never subordinate America to another nation.
A Kerry presidency? Exactly what this country needs.
