FARMINGTON – With a decision on the Palesky property tax referendum looming in November, a short-handed selectmen’s board voted Tuesday to keep the property tax rate the same as last year. The vote was 3-0.

The 2004 tax rate is $18.20 per $1,000 of property value.

“We’re at a critical point where we have to show that we are serious on holding the line on the property tax issue,” Town Manager Dick Davis said.

Selectmen accepted a draft of the town’s Facilities Use Rules and Regulations. Recreation Director Steve Shible pointed out that at the current time there is no charge for the use of the ball fields, field houses, gazebos and parks, but “I can see charges coming.”

The board also voted to approve Mooselook Lane as the new name of a road in a subdivision near Knowlton Corner Road.

The board announced that the memorial service for Roger Perry will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the community center. Perry died last month, leaving the town with one of its most active government volunteers.

Davis also announced an information meeting on the Palesky tax cap proposal from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the community center. It is sponsored by the Maine Municipal Association.
