LIVERMORE – Local Republicans will host the “Party for the President” at Norlands Living History Center in Livermore from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14.
Mike Thibodeau of Winterport will be on hand with a John Deere ice cream making machine, from which organizers will serve home-made ice cream and special cake to celebrate the 150 years of the Republican Party.
Local and national candidates from Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec and Oxford counties are expected to visit, as will the choir from Auburn’s Church of God in Christ.
Israel Washburn Jr., one of the founders of the Republican Party, was born at the Norlands. One of his descendants, Kerck Kelsey of South Freeport, will share the story of the GOP’s beginnings at the event.
Donations will be accepted to help meet expenses of the event. A silent auction will also be held, and special books and commemorative items will be for sale as well.
