L/A Arts’ Music in the Parks series will bring acoustic folk duo Cactus Highway to Festival Plaza in Auburn at noon Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Then Thursday, Aug. 26, Roundhouse will play its brand of blues, also at noon, in Courthouse Plaza on Lisbon Street in Lewiston.
Rob Duquette and Andrea Wollstadt formed Cactus Highway in 1998, a New England-based acoustic duo.
They’re lyrically influenced by folk music, harmonically influenced by jazz and rhythmically influenced by everything, according to a spokesman for the series.
Roundhouse combines old-time blues and swing standards with original music heavily influenced by the Delta blues of the late ’40s and early ’50s. Drawing on early greats such as Louie Jordan and Willie Dixon, this isn’t a typical electric blues band. Avoiding the trappings of the Chicago sound so common today, Roundhouse provides listeners with a blend of rural Delta blues and New Orleans blues and swing.
Roundhouse features Mike “Bullfrog” Rogers on blues harp and vocals, Buddy Shute on guitar and vocals, Dave Graf on guitar and vocals, Brian Coleman on bass and Joe Rogers on drums.
