LIVERMORE FALLS – Pat Elsman, owner of Four-Winds Redemption Center, hopes to raise some funds for one of her employees who severely injured herself in a lawn mower accident in July.
Tammi Harlow, 39, was on a riding mower when it toppled over, rolling several times. Harlow’s fingers were almost severed by the mower’s blades, and her hand and wrist were shattered.
She was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she underwent surgery to reattach her fingers. Harlow has been making weekly trips to Boston for checkups since her release.
Harlow’s sister, Sheree Rickman, came from her home in Virginia to help and has been here for nearly a month. Harlow lost the ring finger of her right hand and has four fractures in her arm and five in her hand, according to Rickman, who also said that Harlow has no health insurance and is a single mother with two teen girls, ages 14 and 15.
“We’ve done a lot of praying,” she said.
Heidi Barker at Pike’s Corner Oasis, one of the event sponsors, said the fund-raiser is a community event.
“It’s a community thing to help someone out,” she said.
Elsman said her employee was in to visit recently and is doing OK.
“She’s not just an employee to us,” she said, “she’s a friend.”
“She’s a go-getter,” she added. “She’d give you the shirt off her back even if she didn’t have another one to put on.”
Sponsored by the redemption center and Pike’s Corner Oasis, a lobster supper will be served from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the restaurant at 1247 Park St. in Livermore Falls. In addition to lobster, corn on the cob, cole slaw, rolls and cake will be served for $10. Sspaghetti with garlic bread will also be available for $6. People may also make donations at both businesses.
