FARMINGTON – The local group Talisker will present a concert of British, Celtic and ethnic music at the GI Coffee House to be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, in the vestry of Old South Congregational Church on Main Street. The music begins at 7:30 p.m.

Talisker is led by Peter and Donna Campion, and includes John and Kathryn Sytsma, Dan Robbins and Elaine Eadler. They have been fine-tuning their arrangements and performing together for the last few years. The Campions live in Wilton, and the other four members make their homes in Farmington and Phillips.

Energetic dance tunes such as “Morgan Rattler,” and rowdy pub songs such as “Wild Rover” and “Whiskey in the Jar” invite audience participation with clapping, dancing and singing along. Instruments include penny whistles, recorders, accordion, bouzouki, guitar, viols, drums and percussion.

Organizers say the coffeehouses are for people who have been directly affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They say it privides a venue for those in the community to help people affected by war to rejoin the community and heal as much as possible from their experiences.

All are welcome at the coffeehouse. There is no charge, but donations are accepted. Refreshments will be served, and child care is provided. Collection boxes are available for those wishing to bring donations for military personnel currently serving Afghanistan and Iraq.
