LIVERMORE – The August theme dinner at Norlands Living History Center offers a Paraguayan dinner and starts with a program on Charles Washburn from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the center.
Charles Washburn, the U.S. minister to Paraguay under President Lincoln, was accused by the dictator Francisco Solano Lopez of trying to overthrow the Paraguayan government. David Cook will share his thoughts about Washburn.
Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. with the menu including empanada de queso (cheese pastries), potaje de garbanzo con acelga (chick pea soup), milanesa (breaded sirloin), bolitas de mandioca (mandioca balls); and flan de naranja (orange custard).
A barn dance follows the meal at 7 p.m. with a caller and live musicians.
Cost of the dinner is $25 and includes participation in the barn dance. Reservations are required for the dinner, but the public may join in for just the barn dance at $5 per person without making a reservation.
