FARMINGTON – A developer looking to build a shopping center with a large anchor store off Routes 2 and 4 is expected to approach selectmen next month.

Seventy acres behind Mount Blue Shopping Center owned by Tom Daku is being looked at by a developer, Farmington Town Manager Richard Davis said. The name of the developer was not available Friday.

Davis said he’s not sure if the developer is looking to buy all of that land or a portion of it.

There are some shoreland zoning issues related to parking that need to be addressed, he said.

Davis said he doesn’t know if the proposal would become controversial. The site would possibly be accessed from Knowlton Corner Road, which has a mix of businesses, residential and farming uses, or off Routes 2 and 4.

The development obviously would be a change of character in the area of Knowlton Corner Road, Davis said.

The developer plans to address selectmen at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Municipal Building.
