STRONG – The Franklin County Republican Committee met recently at the home of Roger Lambert for a cookout.

Those running for office in Franklin County that attended this meeting were host Lambert, Lance Harvel, Tom White and representatives of the Bush-Cheney campaign and a Brian Hamel representative. Plans for the booth at the Farmington Fair were discussed. Franka and Howard Bickford will, with the help of several other members, decorate and set up the booth on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the fairgrounds. A 50/50 raffle will be held, with one ticket for $1 and six for $5. The drawing will be held on Saturday before closing.

Officers include President Russell Black, Secretary Eloise Stevens, Treasurer Warren Rollins, County Committeewoman Pilar Bates and County Committeeman Howard Bickford.

Party office opening

FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Democrats will celebrate the grand opening of the Farmington campaign office at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. The campaign office is at 107 Church St., and the phone number is 778-9934. The public is welcome to stop by the office which will be open everyday. Financial course set

FARMINGTON – Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community will offer a 12-week class, Credit When Credit is Due, from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays starting Sept. 27 and ending Dec. 13, in Farmington. The course is a 12-chapter financial literacy program that can help a participant build or repair their credit and learn about budgeting, credit management, home and car buying, borrowing and bankruptcy. This workshop can be done as self-study or by attending weekly study groups. It is offered in partnership with Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Maine. There is no fee for participants. Clinic adds services

FARMINGTON – Franklin Memorial Hospital has expanded its cardiology clinic services. According to Taffy Davis, FMH outpatient and oncology manager, Dr. Francis DeRook will provide cardiology consulting services at the hospital on the first and third Monday of each month starting Oct. 4. DeRook practices diagnostic cardiology with a special emphasis on congestive heart failure and the subspecialty of cardiac imaging including ultrasound or echocardiology and nuclear cardiology at the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, a division of Central Maine Medical Center. Career class planned

FARMINGTON – Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community will offer a 10-week Career Life Planning class to be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays starting Sept. 28 and ending Nov. 30. In this training, participants will identify their personal values and learn how they can express them in their career, review their skills, interests and experiences and match them to career/job options. In part two of the training, they will learn how to write a resume, interview with confidence, and conduct a winning job search. Part 1, Career Exploration, will be held from Sept. 28 to Nov. 2 and Part 2, Job Search Skills, from Nov. 9 to 30. Participants may take either part 1 or part 2 or both.
