There is a ratchet mechanism in Washington, D.C. The government always drifts left. Both major parties always try to promise more federal government services, more centralization of power. We have politicians looking to the next election rather than statesmen looking to preserve the republic. There is increasingly bold disregard for the United States Constitution, even though every elected officer takes an oath to defend that document.

There is an ever-increasing disregard for what used to be American sovereignty, an ever increasing desire by leaders of both parties to think in terms of a “new world order” through increasing prestige for the inept United Nations. Socialism is the dominant form of government in most of the world’s nations, and both Mr. Kerry and Mr. Bush are giving outspoken support for programs that are socialist.

Both Bush and Kerry favor an increasing federal role in education. Neither Bush nor Kerry believes that women should be denied the right to an abortion. Both Bush and Kerry are willing to accept special rights for homosexuals. Both accept the notion that it is somehow wrong to have the Ten Commandments in our schools and courthouses. Neither Bush nor Kerry seem to recognize that the flow of illegal immigrants across our borders is a severe threat.

Only the Constitution Party candidates recognize that there are vital principles worth fighting for, win or lose. Only Michael Peroutka and Chuck Baldwin are dedicated as national candidates to restore this country to its biblical and constitutional foundations.
