LIVERMORE FALLS – A meeting is planned Wednesday to discuss developing a resource and preparedness guide for the tri-town area.
The goal is to gather input from residents of the communities to put in place a handy brochure, with emergency and non-emergency telephone numbers to be used as a guide in the event of any disaster that may affect the tri-town area, said Kevin Morrissey, RSVP special project coordinator, in a release.
HealthReach’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program members are inviting people to a 6:30 p.m. meeting Wednesday at the upper level of the Livermore Falls Municipal Building where the courtroom used to be.
In addition to the public, they’ve invited Jay, Livermore and Livermore town officials, firefighters, police and other first-response personnel.
The fading of the communities’ collective memory about the events Sept. 11 will be the first discussion topic, Morrissey said.
“This does not mean we have forgotten what happened, but rather have developed an attitude that this will not happen again, especially here in Maine where targets are few,” he said.
Morrissey said that the recent elevation of the terrorist threat level in specific areas and the upcoming election are two reasons the members believe there’s a need to educate the public about how to respond to any disaster.
