LIVERMORE FALLS – Despite recent rains, Superintendent Doug Burdo has told Livermore Falls Water District trustees their primary water supply, Moose Hill Pond, is down more than 26 inches.

Because the pond is down, the district began drawing from its secondary supply, Parkhurst Pond in East Jay, at the first of the month.

That start was better for the district than last year, he admitted, when they began drawing on July 4 due to a dry summer.

Trustees are thankful for the availability of Parkhurst, which was connected to Moose Hill several years ago, but electrical costs for pumping run about $1,000 a week.

Burdo also told the board that preparations are almost ready to replace the sand in the second filter at the pumping station. The first one was done successfully earlier in the year and that filter has shown increased production.
