FARMINGTON – Yoga fans and admirers never fear, a new yoga studio is up and running in downtown Farmington, and owner Megan Roberts said she couldn’t be happier with the results thus far.

Just two weeks after opening her very own studio, Roberts is not only thrilled at the turnout, but also very enthusiastic on spreading the word.

“This is the first full-time yoga studio located in the downtown area,” she said.

Roberts said considers her new home on lower Broadway small but very comfortable one.

Since the late 1970s Roberts has been involved with yoga.

“I’ve been involved off an on, but very seriously for the past seven years,” she said. For the past four years, Roberts has also been manager of local Titcomb Mountain ski area, but with seven classes a week and upward of 60 to 70 students total, the certified yoga instructor is now pleased to be teaching yoga as a full-time job.

The particular type of yoga she teaches is called “Ananda” and is more popular on the West Coast. With close attention being paid on proper breathing techniques and balance, Roberts admits that even if someone just wants to come lay down, it’s all right with her as long as they’re relaxing.

“It’s all about feeling the energy and keeping it,” she said.

Flexibility in the spine, strengthening of the back and abdominal muscles and relaxation are all benefits that Roberts portrays through her instruction. Also playing close attention to the environment that her students are in, Roberts doesn’t play music during her instruction and also prefers the sound of breathing set to the dimly lit background. She also points out that there is no competition within her classes and people can go at their own pace.

A six-week program is scheduled to begin Oct. 11.

“In yoga, I believe in order to be yourself, you need to know yourself,” Roberts said.
