FARMINGTON – Darryl Brown has helped guide Franklin Memorial Hospital through some tough financial times during recent years. He was also instrumental in seeing the hospital expanded to offer more services to community members.
Brown, of Livermore Falls, was given the Health Leadership Award Monday night during the Franklin Community Health Network’s annual corporators’ meeting.
Brown, who has served on the hospital and the network’s board of directors for more than 10 years, was recognized for his “countless hours of work in governance of the health network,” according to a hospital press release.
“Darryl is just a tireless worker for the hospital,” fellow director Charles Murray said Wednesday. “Anything he’s asked to do he steps up to the plate and does a superb job. He’s a great guy.”
Murray said Brown was the chairman of the board when the decision was made to expand the hospital, and he made sure it was done.
He also oversaw two long-range planning strategy committees for the hospital after state and federal government reduced its reimbursements for patient services, he said.
“Darryl has brought enthusiasm, sensitivity, high standards, wisdom, compassion, diligence and some good humor to the job,” Richard Batt, president of Franklin Community Health Network, stated in a release.
“He makes sure all voices at the table are heard and brings out the best in all of us. It is a privilege to work with him,” Batt stated.
Brown has served on numerous ad-hoc committees throughout the years, and has served as chair of both boards, chair of the finance committee, chair of the Emergency Medical Service Task Force, and is chair of the current Long-Range Planning Committee.
Brown is the co-owner and vice president of two companies in Livermore Falls: Leibro Inc., a land-development company; and Maine-Land Development Consultants, a land use, engineering and environmental permitting company. He also served in the Maine House of Representatives from 1978 to 1986.
