FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department received three new automatic external defibrillators Monday. The defibrillators can, in some cases, restart a heart in cardiac arrest through the use of an electric shock.

The three defibrillators, and two previously received, were given to the department by the Tri-County Emergency Management Agency, Sheriff Dennis Pike said. The machines cost about $1,000 each, he said.

Three of the devices will be kept in cruisers of Deputies Aaron Turcotte, David Rackliffe and Heidi Gould, who will be trained in using them. Turcotte and Rackliffe are paramedics.

There will also be training for all correctional facility supervisors and court officer Joyce Richard. One of the defibrillators will be kept in the jail, the other will be brought to the courtroom daily by Richard.
