FARMINGTON – Poet and scholar Rachel Harding will give a poetry reading at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, in Thomas Auditorium in Ricker Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington campus.

Harding’s reading on “Spirit and Journeys of the African Diaspora” is billed as a personal exploration of religion, history and culture evoking Cuban Santeria, Haitian voodoo, Brazilian Candomble and African-American Christianity.

Harding received a Ph.D. in history from the University of Colorado. She has read her poetry at many universities and institutes, and her work has been published in various journals.

The reading is free and open to the public. Its sponsored by the UMF Religion and Philosophy Club. Donations will be accepted to promote similar events to be sponsored by the club.

The Religion and Philosophy Club hosts international consultations, speakers, special musical presentations and recitals.
