As a taxpayer, interested in stopping the escalation of city budgets, I am concerned about the thought process Ms. Palesky reached to bring this tax-cap question to the taxpayers of Maine.
Given the reaction of city and state governments to the tax cap, I am not hearing too much from either side as to an equitable solution to the revenue problem.
Palesky has said little regarding just how she expects our city and state representatives to implement her plan. More specifically, what is Palesky’s plan? Does she have one? It isn’t enough to say enough; alternatives need to be offered to bring about positive, progressive and constructive change.
Most people struggle to live within a budget, and the income isn’t always there, but they make do. Government needs to start listening. Threatening taxpayers with the loss of services and/or fees I believe is counterproductive. Government needs to start being more creative in their decisions and learn more how to hold the line. We all acknowledge waste in government; however, no one has the courage to do anything about it. The word “more” needs to stop.
