LIVERMORE – If the Palesky tax cap passes, next year’s municipal budget revenues would be $214,089 less than the current year’s, Administrator Kurt Schaub told selectpersons Tuesday.
That amount would be nearly a quarter of the municipal revenue left after the town pays its obligations to SAD 36 and the county, a total of $1,803,610 this year.
It would be up to the Budget Committee to decide where cuts would be made, but the board seemed certain that the tax cap would mean the elimination of the town’s road construction program.
Schaub also reported that assessor Paul Binette was in the office Tuesday to review abatement applications. One applicant was on hand to talk with the board about his property’s valuation, which had increased from $20,500 to $81,500. The taxpayer had met with Binette that day, as the assessor had toured the home, which had been built many years ago primarily with salvaged materials. The taxpayer was hoping for an adjustment, now that the property had been thoroughly inspected. The assessor has not made a decision.
Approval was given to an application by Fire Chief Randall Berry for five dry hydrants, which the board felt would be of great use to the town. Berry is seeking grant funding for the cost. Dry hydrants are non-pressured pipe systems that firefighters can use to draw water from ponds or lakes.
One additional person was approved to work the polls on Nov. 2 because Town Clerk Renda Libby expects a heavy turnout.
Road Foreman Bert Bryant reported he had Ted Berry Co. blow out the plugged culverts on Goding and Spruce Mountain roads, that the runoff problem on Waters Hill Road had been fixed and that he had received complaints on Norton and Sanders roads.
Approval was given to the purchase of 1,500 yards of winter sand, and repairs were authorized to the loading ramp.
Code officer Richard Marble reported that the hearing for junkyard permits will be Nov. 8. He is following up on three violations in the subdivision on Waters Hill Road.
The board will meet with SAD 36 directors and Livermore Falls selectmen at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the high school cafeteria.
