PHILLIPS – After a year of meeting every month, the Phillips Comprehensive Plan Committee will present the first draft of the Comprehensive Plan at a forum at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Community House on Main Street.

The plan presents recommendations for improving economic development and protecting resources. A survey showed that two issues – jobs and natural resources – were the ones Phillips residents most agreed on.

“The most important thing is to get townspeople to look at the plan and speak up about anything that they don’t like,” said Maria McManus, chairman of the Comprehensive Plan Committee, in a prepared statement.

“If they speak up now, we can address their concerns. If people wait until town meeting to voice their complaints, there’s not much we can do.”

The committee must vote on the plan. If the plan gets voted down because of last-minute gripes, she noted, “then everyone who volunteered on this committee will have wasted their time and the town’s money. We don’t want that to happen.”

She pointed out that there was time for feedback.

“We won’t have to vote on this for another five months – so there should be no excuses for last-minute problems.”

The Comprehensive Plan is available at the town office and will soon be on the town Web site: www.phillipsmaine.com.

“There will be hot cider and other goodies at the meeting,” stated Evelyn Wilbur, town clerk and committee member. “At least you’ll get something for coming out on a cold night.”
