FARMINGTON – A Farmington man was sentenced to 10 years in jail with all but nine months suspended by Judge Joseph Jabar after he pleaded guilty to several charges Friday.

Richard J. Mills, 26, was arrested in June after a victim told Farmington police about incidents that occurred at a party on Evergreen Lane. Mills and two other men gave beer and marijuana to three girls, who were then sexually molested, police said. Two of the girls were 14, one was 12, according to Farmington Detective Marc Bowering, who investigated the incident.

Mills was charged with nine counts: gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, two counts of abuse of a minor, three counts of trafficking scheduled drugs, allowing a minor to possess liquor and procuring liquor for a minor. He pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual contact, sexual abuse of a minor and one count of aggravated unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs. The other charges were dismissed in a plea bargain.

A letter from a mental health rehabilitation technician in Mills’ file stated that he has been attending impulse control behavior and impulse control drug groups weekly since the middle of June. He is also participating in one-on-one counseling monthly and is working “on getting himself back into college so he can finish getting his degree.”

“I am unsure if his participation in these activities would be fitting for the requirements of the court or Probation and Parole that were needed,” wrote Jamie Meader on Mills’ behalf, “however, I do believe any progress toward self betterment should be noted.”
