LIVERMORE FALLS – Livermore Falls and Jay police departments plan extra patrol Friday, the day neighboring football teams face off for the Gold Ball.

Jay School Department is offering shuttle buses at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 to Griffin Field in Livermore Falls, Jay Transportation Supervisor Sue Weston said.

This is expected to alleviate parking constraints in Livermore Falls, where voters passed an ordinance in July prohibiting parking on the west side of Highland Avenue and the south side of Cedar, Oak, Maple, Chestnut, Walnut and Birch streets.

In addition, Livermore Falls High School Principal Roderick Wright said there will be parking at the bus parking lot, in the high school staff lots, in the student parking lot and parking areas near the Middle School and behind as well as in front of SAD 36 Central Office.

“We’re looking forward to a big crowd,” Wright said.

With the Jay Tigers and the Livermore Falls Andies both undefeated, police expect spirits to be high.

There will be extra police starting at 2 p.m. Friday, when Livermore Falls and Jay high schools let out, both Livermore Falls Chief Ernest Steward Jr. and Jay Chief Larry White Sr. said.

There will also be extra police patrolling the football field during the game, Steward said.

Steward said police also will be enforcing the no-parking zones.

At the last home game, a couple people complained about the parking in the prohibited zones, he said.

“The signs are up and we have to enforce them,” he said.

There were about 30 to 40 vehicles parked in the restricted parking zones on the so-called tree streets, Steward said.

A fine for parking in a no-parking zone is $10, he said.

“We’re going to have a strong police presence on the 29th from the time school lets out until the game,” White said. “My goal is not to write summons but to keep students safe.”

Police also intend to patrol the parking lots at the Jay High School to make sure vehicle owners are not the victims of criminal mischief, White said.

Additionally, White said, there will be extra patrol on the night before the game keeping a close eye on the schools.
