JAY – Voters elected Alan Labbe over Stephen McCourt to fill the remainder of Selectman Parker Kinney’s term, which runs until the 2006 annual town meeting.

Labbe received 1,699 votes and McCourt garnered 944 votes.

Labbe, an information technology consultant, formerly served as a School Committee member and selectman. He said he decided to run so he can be involved in a meaningful way with the community that he has lived in most of his life.

“I feel I have a lot to offer the citizens of Jay through my previous experience, my willingness to listen and my ability to express myself on controversial issues,” Labbe said previously.

Labbe said he believes property taxes need the most attention in Jay.

McCourt, a papermaker at International Paper, said he has been interested in town politics for a number of years.

The most pressing issue facing the town, McCourt said, is the Palesky tax-cap initiative. He had said he planned to encourage voters to vote no on the tax cap.
