WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandies University senior Bryan Lambert slammed his first home run since his rookie season and earned a school-record seventh save for the season in a 3-2 win over Union College in baseball action Friday.
Lambert, a former three-sport standout at Edward Little, has been primarily a pitcher since his freshman year, but started at first base today before coming on in relief of starting pitcher Chris McDonough in the eighth inning to shut the door and preserve the win. Lambert now has 14 career saves, three shy of David McDonald’s mark of 17 in a career.
Bowdoin 11, Colby 5
BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin College used a four-run eighth inning to pull ahead of Colby College in baseball action Friday afternoon at Pickard Field, securing an 11-5 win.
The Polar Bears’ (9-5) Ricky LeClerc delivered the big blow, driving a three-run double down the line to plate Jared Lemieux, Nick Lawler and Chris McCann.
Lawler, McCann, Lemieux and Mike Buckley each had a pair of safeties in the victory.
Trevor Powers went the distance, striking out eight, allowing six hits and one walk to register the complete game.

Softball
Bowdoin 4, UMF 1
BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin College handed the University of Maine at Farmington a 4-1 setback in women’s softball action Friday.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the third, the Polar Bears (12-3) rallied to take a lead they would not relinquish, plating three runs.
Danielle Chagnon drove in Jame Woogerd with an RBI single and then scored herself on a double steal later in the inning.
Rachel Gordon added an RBI, driving in Brittany Ogden on a fielder’s choice to account for the final score.
Caitlin Polistena notched her sixth win coming on in relief of Ogden.
