STONEHAM, Mass. (AP) – A car crash on Interstate 93 early Thursday killed two men, and seriously injured two other men, police said. All were from Boston.
State police said a southbound SUV slammed into a guard rail in Stoneham around 1:30 a.m., flipped over and burst into flames.
The driver, Wellington Villar, 23, and a rear seat passenger, Danny Pimental, 24, were pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
A front seat passenger and back seat passenger were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.
Alfredo Amador, 26, of Boston, was taken to Masschusetts General Hospital and Jose Cosme, 26, was taken to the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
Police said a second car that may have been speeding in the area at the time of the crash.
The accident blocked all but one lane of the highway for hours before the wrecked car was towed.
