OXFORD – Drizzle and fog prompted Oxford Plains Speedway owner Bill Ryan to postpone Week 2 of the Big Apple Food Stores Summer Racing Series.

Due to the rainout, Ryan said the summer series will feature a special Tuesday evening edition on Aug. 23. That’s the night before the Boost Mobile Freestyle.mx Tour event presented by Ken’s Yamaha. It originally was scheduled as an off-week for the Big Apple series.

Mid-week competition resumes next Wednesday, June 22 at 6:30 p.m. There are two race programs scheduled at OPS this weekend.

The Yankee Trophy Go-Kart Series is slated to get the green flag at 6:30 p.m. Friday, while a 100-lap Mini Stock feature and American Mini Cup Racing Series tour headline Oxford Hannaford Night on Saturday, also at 6:30. All five Weekly Racing Series divisions are in action.

Senior all-star game to be held June 24

ORONO – The 2005 High School Senior All-Star game will be held Friday, June 24, at 7 p.m. at the University of Maine’s Mahaney Diamond.

As part of the event, the annual Dr. John Winkin Award (Mr. Baseball) will be given to the most outstanding senior player. Previous award winners include Greg Crekk, Brandon Brewer, Mark Rogers and Matt Kinney.

In a departure from previous years where only two players from each school could be nominated, there are four Deering High School players on this year’s team. The Southern Maine coaches who voted for the team were strongly in support of the additional two Deering players.
