LEWISTON – Rachel Greenwood scored an unassisted goal with 4:30 remaining to lift Bates College to a 4-3 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in in field hockey action on Wednesday.
Greenwood led the Bobcats with a pair of goals, while Emily Sampson and Megan Petry also tallied.
Kristy Veazie led the Beavers with two goals, while Mary Berry also scored. Kaeliegh Barker and Rachel Sheloske split time in net, turning away four saves.
Thomas 4, St. Joe’s 0
STANDISH – Ashley Gibson netted a pair of goals to pace Thomas to a 4-0 shutout over St. Joseph’s in field hockey action on Wednesday. Amy Miles and Kari Grant also tallied for the Terriers (4-2).
Jennifer Lane needed only four saves in net to preserve the shutout. Kelsey Moody handled goalkeeping duties for St. Joe’s, turning away two shots.
USM 1, Eastern Connecticut 0
GORHAM – Irene Coleman converted a pass from Lilly Beaulieu just six and a half minutes into the game to lift the University of Southern Maine to a 1-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut in field hockey on Wednesday.
Sadie Garnache-Poirier turned back seven shots in net to record the shutout.
Eastern Connecticut had a chance to tie the game late when Stephanie Mongelli corralled a loose ball in the circle following a penalty corner, but her shot sailed just right of the goal. Jessica Roberts made three saves in net for the Warriors (2-7).
Womens’ soccer
St. Joe’s 2, UMF 1
FARMINGTON – Danielle McLaughlin punched in a loose ball off a rebound with 2:20 left in overtime to lift St. Joseph’s to a 2-1 over the University of Maine at Farmington in women’s soccer on Wednesday afternoon.
UMF’s Julie Walters scored first in the game at the 58 minute mark. Katie Jordan, for St. Joseph’s, got the tying-goal eight minutes later.
Keeper duties for St. Joe’s were split by Krista Witherspoon with 16 saves, while Melissa DeMerchant made 10. The UMF effort was paced by goaltender Alix Raymond with three saves.
Mens’ soccer
Colby 2, USM 0
WATERVILLE – The Colby College men’s soccer team scored one goal in each half, taking a 2-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday.
Chris MacFadyen got the eventual game-winning goal just 6:45 into the game off an assist from Bobby Abendroth. The Mules (3-2) made it 2-0 about 20 minutes into the second half when Tom Milaschewski converted a pass from Todd Boertzel.
Colby goalkeeper Josh Kahane recorded a second-straight shutout, making just four saves.
Husson 2, UMPI 1
BANGOR – Chris Rozak scored the game-winning goal just 20 seconds into overtime to give Husson a 2-1 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle in men’s soccer action on Wednesday. Rozak found the net off a rebound from Oscar Ody’s shot.
Ody tied the game with 23:45 remaining, scoring off a penalty kick from a handball in the box. Ody fired a low shot to the left corner to tie the score at 1-1. Jared Griffins put UMPI up 1-0 just 5:08 into the game. Griffins put home a shot past first-year keeper Dana Bellmare from a cross by Jared Dyar.
Bellemare made 10 saves on the day.
while Scott Clenchy turned back 13 shots in net for UMPI.
