Dear Sun Spots: Sometime this spring or early summer, the Sun Journal’s Sunday paper had an article about a book having to do with traveling I-95. It was about tourist attractions along this route and was to be published locally. I have misplaced the article and would like to order some for Christmas gifts. Please print the address and/or telephone number where the book may be purchased. The location was somewhere in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Bookland did not have the book in their store. Thank you for your help. – P.C., No Town.
Answer: Sun Spots checked with Special Sections Editor Denise Scammon who says you would have read this article about “Drive I-95: Exit by Exit Info, Maps, History and Trivia” by Stan Posner and Sandra Phillips-Posner in the Summer in Maine special advertising section which ran May 8. You can purchase the book nationwide, at online bookstores by calling toll-free (888) 484-3395, or at www.drivei95.com. The ISBN number is 1-894979-78-8 and the book costs $22.95.
Dear Sun Spots: I live on the beautiful, scenic Route 17 north from Mexico. On many bicycle trips, I try not to see all the trash on the roadside, but it remains and in large quantities. Is there a way to get citizens interested in a cleanup project? Even if occupants along the highway would clean a quarter mile on each end of their property. I remember when state and towns would join folks for such projects, but not for a longtime and it shows! I, for one, would join in any effort for the beautification of Route 17 by cleaning the roadside. Thank you. – S.C., Roxbury.
Answer: Dear S.C., this is one sure way of getting citizens interested and hopefully they’ll heed your distress call.
Dear Sun Spots: I have a range hood with a dent in it and have been searching for someone who could possibly remove the dent. I did inquire with the Dent Wizard and their response was, they only do cars. I greatly would appreciate any help you could give me in researching who could take out this dent. Thanks. – Richard Thibodeau, No Town.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots spoke with Dan at Armand’s Auto Body Shop, 31 Blake St., Lewiston, (207) 782-7113, who recommends you bring the hood down to the shop and he will give you a price for fixing it, if it is something he can do. Please contact him about this. He’ll be happy to assist you.
Dear Sun Spots: As many of your readers will know, this is the last year that Lake Street School in Auburn will be used as an elementary school. While we are very excited about our new school being built on Park Avenue, Lake Street has been a wonderful little school and a big part of our community for almost 81 years, so moving on is bittersweet. The school’s PTO has had commemorative T-shirts, sweatshirts and hats made to honor the closing of this special school, and we would like to offer them to as many Lake Street School alumni as possible. Your readers may know some of these alumni or may be alumni themselves. These items are only available for a short time. Anyone interested in these items can see them and place an order at the office in the school. All of the proceeds from the sale of these items will go to the PTO itself and will fund special events, field trips, books and classroom supplies. Thank you. – Donna Lafean, PTO Co-President, Auburn.
