WINSLOW – Jamie Bonnell scored a hat trick to lead Messalonskee to a 6-2 victory over Lewiston in Class A East hockey action Wednesday.
The Eagles (2-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first period, including a pair of power plays and a pair of short-handed goals. Ted Fabian recorded a goal and five assists, while Nat Delgiudice was credited with a goal and four assists for Messalonskee.
The Blue Devils (1-1) struck first in the second period and notched the only third-period goal. Senior Danny Cloutier and sophomore Jon Roy tallied Lewiston’s goals, while Zack Blauvelt and Casey Poussard assisted on both goals.
Goalie senior Brian Nason had 16 saves for Lewiston, while Zack Parent turned back 13 for Messalonskee.
Boys’ basketball
Pine Tree 53, Gould 45
BETHEL – Travis Robbins and Ben Goodall each scored a game-high 16 points to lead Pine Tree Academy to a 53-45 win over Gould Academy in boys’ basketball action Wednesday.
The first half was a close battle between Pine Tree and Gould, with the Huskies (1-1) taking 26-23 lead at intermission.
But Goodall notched two of his four 3-pointers in a 15-7 third-quarter run for the Breakers (2-1), a momentum they carried into the fourth quarter and on to victory.
Evan Bruens paced the Huskies with 13 points, including a pair of treys, while T.L. Tutor pitched in with 12 points in the loss.
Girls’ basketball
Kents Hill 42, Hyde 16
KENTS HILL – Aliegh Mills netted 11 points and hauled down 10 rebounds to lead Kents Hills to a 42-16 victory over Hyde in prep school girls’ basketball action Wednesday.
Emelda Ogwetta chipped in for Kents Hill (2-0) with 10 points, while Jackie Gerschmann-Mannochi added eight.
The Kents Hill squad recorded 20 steals in the game, led by Gerschmann-Mannochi and Jane Pavalkis with six each.
Hyde had four players put points on the board, led by two with six each.
Kents Hill jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter, then cruised to a convincing win.
