ORONO – University of Maine senior offensive lineman Ben Lazarski was recently named to the 2005 Associated Press All-America Third-Team. It marks the second consecutive season a member of the Black Bears has been named All-America by a news agency.
Lazarski started all 11 games at the center position for Maine this season. He concluded his career by starting in 39 straight games in the positon. The All-America honor is the third post-season award for Lazarski, who was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Conference First-Team and was honored as a First-Team All-Star by the New England Football Writers Association last month.
DiGravio heads for Olympic Trials
WINTER PARK, Colo. – Carrabassett Valley Academy alumni and postgraduate David DiGravio, of Farmington, skied his way onto the United States Freestyle Mogul Ski Team on Dec. 11, earning him a chance to try out for the United States Olympic team.
DiGravios’s spot on the team came this past weekend after winning Friday’s mogul event at U.S. Selections in Winter Park. He finished first among candidates for the team in Sunday’s Selection event. As the youngest member on the U.S. Ski Team, DiGravio now qualifies to compete in the Olympic Trials on Dec. 30 in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
If DiGravio wins Olympic Trials he will clinch a place on the 2006 Olympic Team. Following Olympic Trials, DiGravio will compete in World Cup events in Deer Valley, Utah, and Lake Placid, N.Y.
