BETHEL – Senior guard Sean Caddigan scored a whopping 49 points to lift Telstar to an 88-83 win over Wiscasset in a double overtime MVC boys’ basketball matchup Saturday evening.
Caddigan notched his 1,000th point early in the contest and went on to score another 43 points to power the Rebels (1-2).
The Redskins trailed 52-35 after three quarters. But Wiscasset rallied with a 30-13 fourth-quarter frame to push the game into overtime. Matt Hinckley and Curtis Decoster tallied 24 points apiece. Ben Matzell recorded 13 points and Ken Morse another 11, which included three 3-pointers.
Mt. Blue 62, Nokomis 53
FARMINGTON – Steve Wells scored a game-high 18 points, and Isiah Braithwaite buried three 3-pointers in a decisive second quarter to lead Mt. Blue to a 62-53 victory over Nokomis.
Leading 16-14 after one quarter, the Cougars (2-1) used full-court pressure to take charge in the second quarter. Braithwaite scored nine of Mt. Blue’s 13 points in the quarter as the Cougars extended their cushion to 29-20 at halftime.
Adam Gilbert and Noah Paytas led Mt. Blue with eight rebounds each. Brandon Oldenburg scored 15 points for Nokomis (1-2).
Lisbon 67, Mt. Abram 38
LISBON – Levi Ervin poured in 26 points and hauled down 20 rebounds to spark Lisbon to a 67-38 triumph over Mt. Abram.
Ervin scored 12 points in the first quarter and Chris Brunick scored the other six to help the Greyhounds (2-0) jump out to an 18-7 lead after one quarter. Lisbon put the game away in the second when the lead grew to 43-16.
Brunick finished with 13 points, while Brendan McGivney added 10 and 13 rebounds. Mike Wilkins dished out 10 assists. Brunick limited Mt. Abram’s leading scorer Jordan Norton to four points. Tyson Chase led the Roadrunners with eight points.
Leavitt 50, Cony 46
TURNER – Cam Angell dropped in 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Leavitt to its first win of the season, a 50-46 victory over Cony. Angell drained a pair of 3-pointers in the game, and added two assists and two steals.
Matt Nash finished with 10 points to go with five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a pair of blocks for the Hornets (1-2).
Chris Thurston scored 14 points for Cony (0-3), with all four of his field goals coming from beyond the 3-point arc. Andrew Pullen matched Thurston with 14 points of his own.
Maranacook 77, Camden Hills 70
READFIELD – Ryan Martin displayed a bit of fireworks with 32 points as Maranacook bumped Camden Hills 77-70 in boys’ basketball action.
The Windjammers (1-2) stayed competitive throughout the contest with a balanced attack and 10 three-point field goals. Noah Burke and Jared Mitchell tallied three each from beyond the arc.
Will Bardaglio complemented Martin’s performance with 20 points for the Black Bears (3-0). Bardaglio had an excellent game from the line, connecting for 10 of his 11 free throws.
St. Dom’s 59, OOB 48
OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Senior Justin Richardson tickled the twine with 25 points to lead St. Dom’s to a 59-48 win over Old Orchard Beach in boys’ basketball action Saturday.
The Seagulls (1-2) took a first-period 14-10 lead, but trailed 34-28 at the half and never recovered. Senior Kyle Rancourt had a team-high 18 points, while teammate Mike Perrone contributed 11 points for Old Orchard Beach.
The Saints (1-1) found a groove in free throws, making 23 of 32 as part of their winning combination. Sophomore Billy Colasante recorded 16 points, including six free throws. Richardson led the Saints with 11 free throws.
EL 58, Morse 45
AUBURN – Troy Barnies keyed the Eddies’ offense with 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Edward Little held on for a 58-45 victory over Morse. The Eddies took an early 12-4 lead after the first quarter. The Shipbuilders narrowed the lead to only two points by the end of the third quarter with the help of an aggressive defense.
Edward Little responded with 25 points in the final frame.
Kyle Giguere contributed eight points and seven rebounds to the win.
Josh Tuplin did his part to keep Morse in the game with 19 points, and Mike Perry hit five shots for 14 points, connecting on four 3-pointers.
Dirigo 53, Georges Valley 41
THOMASTON – Junior Spencer Berry poured in 20 points to lead Dirigo to a 53-41 win over Georges Valley in boys’ basketball action Saturday.
The Cougars (3-0) were paced by Berry’s 20 points and five steals, while sophomore Colby Knapp connected for five field goals and hauled down five rebounds.
The Buccaneers received offensive support from Nate Frisbee and Stephan Ranney with 11 points each. Frisbee notched the only 3-pointer in the contest.
G-NG 56, Yarmouth 37
YARMOUTH – Matt Robertson sparked the Patriot offense with 19 points, including three 3-pointers, as Gray-New Gloucester pulled away from Yarmouth 56-37. Chris Bennett added 11 points to go with eight rebounds, and Josh Levasseur chipped in with 10 points and seven boards.
Joe Dilworth lead Yarmouth (0-4) with 13 points, and Kenny Glanton contributed 11 points.
Poland 57, Lake Region 52
POLAND – Jon Lecznar scored a game-high 16 points and Keegan Fennessey added 12 more as Poland downed Lake Region 57-52 to give head coach Chris Willer his first varsity win.
Lecznar also reeled in 14 rebounds, and Chad Westleigh had 14 boards to go with nine points. Todd Shigo had 13 points to pace the Lakers (1-2).
Medomak Valley 75, Oak Hill 36
WALES – Matt Mackenzie drained 12 field goals for a game-high 24 points as Medomak Valley cruised to a 75-36 victory over Oak Hill. Zack Armstrong joined Mackenzie in double figures with 14 points for Medomak (2-1).
Josh Jillson and Mike Eaton each scored eight points to lead the winless Raiders (0-3).
Winthrop 82, Livermore Falls 41
WINTHROP – Senior forward Tyler Smithgall scored 15 points in a balanced attack as Winthrop doubled over Livermore Falls 82-41 in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday.
The contest began evenly matched, but the Ramblers (3-0) went on a 23-point run in the second quarter to take a 45-26 lead into intermission. Winthrop opened the third quarter with a 10-point run as well.
Tim Gingras notched a double-double for the Ramblers with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Davis Mercier led the scoring for the Andies (0-3) with 14 points.
Nason, Lewiston shut out Bangor 4-0
BANGOR – Ian Doucette scored 46 seconds into the game and Brian Nason stopped all 29 shots to spark Lewiston to a 4-0 triumph over Bangor.
Nason came up with several key saves in the opening period, when the Blue Devils (2-1) opened up a 2-0 lead. Doucette, who also had two assists, put Lewiston on the board in the opening minute when he fired a shot through a screen from the high slot. Tim Gilbert, Jordan Bourgoin and Matt Letourneau each had a goal and an assist. Josh Sealey stopped 15 shots for the Rams (1-2).
Hebron wins pair
CONCORD, Mass. – Matt Pedemonti scored five goals to lead Hebron to a 7-3 victory over Wooster Academy at the Barber Tournament. Mike Turk and Jordan Krusch also scored for Hebron. Jason Butler had three assists.
The Lumberjacks later beat Vermont Academy 5-2 behind Krusch’s hat trick. Also scoring for Hebron were Ben Jessome and Warren Joyce. Pedemonti had two assists.
Mike McDougal and John Glant each picked up a win in the Hebron goal.
