SALEM, Mass. – Trailing by a point with six minutes to play, Salem State went on a 9-0 spurt to stun the University of Southern Maine, the nation’s No. 1-ranked team, 71-61.
The Vikings (6-1) led 35-28 at the half, but USM fought back to tie the game at 40-40 with 14:17 to play. The lead see-sawed for the next eight minutes, with the Huskies grabbing a 55-54 lead with 6:08 remaining before Salem State’s nine-point run.
Ashley Marble led USM (8-1) with 19 points and 11 boards, while Megan Myles added 15 points. Lindsey Watkins scored a game-high 25 points to pace Salem State.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Forward Whitney Allen scored a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead George Washington University to a 57-47 win over the University of Maine.
The lead changed six times in the early going before Sarah-Jo Lawrence came off the bench to contribute 14 points and swing the pendulum in George Washington’s (5-3) favor.
Forward Katie Whittier led the scoring for the Black Bears (2-5) with 16 points, while guard Ashley Underwood tossed in 10.

Salem State 92, USM 81
SALEM, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine picked up some ground in the second half, but still succumbed to Salem State 92-81 in mens’ basketball action Saturday.
Sophomore guard Josh Daniels had a career-high 24 points for Southern Maine, while senior forward Jesse McKinnell notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Foster Oakley of Farmington and forward Bill Hardwick each added 13 points. Walter Phillips added a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.
