FARMINGTON – Steve Wells netted 23 points and the Cougars rode their pressure defense to a 56-44 victory over Oxford Hills in KVAC action.

Isaiah Braithwaite added 11 points for Mt. Blue (5-1), including three 3-point field goals, and John Maloney chipped in with five points. Wells also had a pair of 3-pointers.

Ben Ryerson matched Wells with a game-high 23 points for the Vikings. Colton Weymouth added eight points, and Alex Waite had five.

Boothbay 72, Liv. Falls 47

BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Junior forward Roy Arsenault had a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead Boothbay to a 72-47 triumph over Livermore Falls in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Andies (2-4) kept up in the first quarter before losing serious ground in the second to trail 31-20 at the half. Junior center Mike Durrell paced the Andies with 14 points, while senior guard Derick Neal contributed 12 points.

The Seahawks (5-1) came out agressively in the second half to break the game open with a 23-9 spread in the third quarter. Arsenault scored 10 of his 22 points in the third frame. Sophomore guard Tim Stover recorded 19 points, while Kris Noonan and Pat Norton chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Telstar 56, Geo. Valley 32

THOMASTON – Sean Cadigan poured in 21 points Friday night as Telstar pulled away from Georges Valley, 56-32.

Max Meader chipped in with 15 points for the Rebels (4-3), and Ryan Kimball added 10.

Brandon Staples and Nate Frisbee each scored 10 points for Georges Valley (3-4).

Mountain Valley 53, Hall-Dale 36

FARMINGDALE – Andy Shorey scored 14 points to lead Mountain Valley to a 53-36 victory over Hall-Dale in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Bulldogs (2-4) took a four-point lead into intermission, but the Falcons (6-0) swooped down on their prey in the third and fourth quarters. The Falcons blanked the Bulldogs 10-0 in the final frame.

Marcus Palmer chipped in with 11 points.

Justin Poland was the workhorse for the Bulldogs, scoring 20 points and hauling down nine rebounds. Eric Gagne added 10 points, while Jay Skillings recorded seven assists.

Valley 62, Buckfield 48

BUCKFIELD – Travis Hovey dropped in 22 points from the paint as Valley downed Buckfield, 62-48.

With leading scorer Jaime Henderson on the bench for long stretches due to foul trouble, the Bucks had no answer for 6-foot-5 Hovey. Valley (4-1) took the lead in the second quarter, and then scored 22 points from the foul line when Buckfield was forced to foul. Shawn Lay added 15 points and Cole Poulin scored 10 points for Valley.

Henderson finished with 14 points in limited action. Jeffrey Bennett added 12 points, and John Condon had 10 assists.

Mt. Abram 57, Wiscassett 50

SALEM – Jordan Norton scored 14 points, to go with 11 rebounds and five steals, as Mt. Abram defeated Wiscassett, 57-50.

Aaron Adams and Nate Blake each scored 13 points for the Roadrunners (3-4). Adams also stole a couple of long passes late in the game that Mt. Abram turned into points, and Blake took three offensive fouls.

Tyson Chase pulled down 14 rebounds in the win.

Curtis Decosta did his part for Wiscassett (3-3) with 19 points, and Matt Hinkley added 15 points.

MCI 56, Oak Hill 44

WALES – Senior forward Andy Tracy recorded 17 points as MCI outpaced Oak Hill 56-44 in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The game featured very few trips to the foul line as the teams combined for seven attempts. The Huskies (3-3) were 3-for-3 from the line while the Raiders (0-6) secured 1-of-4 from their charity stripe.

Senior guard Mike Eaton led the Raiders with 10 points.
