FARMINGTON – Steve Wells poured in 16 points to pace Mt. Blue to a 50-27 victory over Skowhegan in KVAC basketball action.
Mt. Blue held a commanding 21-8 advantage at the half and was never seriously challenged.
John Moloney chipped in for the Cougars (6-2) with 14 points, while Noah Paytas added 10.
Josh Whiting led the Indians (1-7) with eight points, while Mike Lacasse added six.
Poland 51, Cape Eliz. 47
POLAND – Keegan Fennessey nailed a pair of free-throws late in the game to give Poland a narrow 51-47 victory over Cape Elizabeth.
Fennessey poured in 14 points to lead the Knights (5-4), while Tyler Merchant added 13.
Joe Geoghegan led Cape Elizabeth with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The two teams were tied at 30 at the half, then Cape went up by six in the third quarter. Poland went on a 11-1 run in the fourth quarter to seal a much-needed victory.
Mt. View 49, Oak Hill 35
THORNDIKE – Senior center Kyle Tripp collected a game-high 12 points to lead Mt. View to a 49-35 win over Oak Hill in KVAC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.
The Raiders (0-9) were trailing by only one point going into the fourth quarter, but Ross Caron scored all seven of his points for the Mustangs (4-6) in the final period during a 19-6 run for Mt. View.
Brian Bisson and Lee Reynolds scored seven points apiece for the Raiders, while Mike Eaton tallied four rebounds, four assists and four steals to go along with six points in the losing effort.
Jay 61, Madison 52
JAY – Jay used a 24-point first quarter to grab an early advantage and hold off Madison 61-52 Tuesday evening.
Brad Loon led the way with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Jake Brown scored all 11 of his points in the first half when Jay opened a 24-13 and 33-24 cushion after the first tw quarters.
Sam Wagg led the Bulldogs with 12 points.
Maranacook 59, Belfast 43
BELFAST – Ryan Martin poured in 13 points to pace Maranacook to a 59-43 victory over Belfast.
Will Bardaglio chipped in for the undefeated Black Bears (8-0) with 10 points, the only other player in double digits.
Andy Whalen led Belfast (2-7) with a game-high 16 points.
Maranacook held a slim 26-21 advantage at the halftime break, then outscored their opponent 33-22 in the second half to seal the win.
Richmond 83, Buckfield 58
RICHMOND – Brandon Lancaster scored nine of his 11 points during a decisive third quarter when Richmond broke opened a close game en route to an 83-58 victory over Buckfield.
The Bobcats (7-1) were clinging to a 27-24 halftime lead before putting the game away with a 25-11 run in the third quarter.
Glendon Kendrick led Richmond with 15 points, while Billy Milne and Marc Zaharchuk scored 11 apiece. Jeff Bennett led Buckfield (2-6) with 15 points. Justin Dodge and Sean Ridge chipped in with 11 each.
Hockey
Win-Dale 3, Kents Hill 1
HALLOWELL – Sophomore right wing Mike Fleischmann netted a pair of goals to lift Win-Dale to a 3-1 victory over Kents Hill in hockey action Tuesday.
Senior center Sam Frost assisted on all three goals for the Ice Dogs (2-3).
Goalie Will Reyes had 17 saves for the Huskies, while Tavis Hasenfus picked up the win with 23 saves for Win-Dale.
St. Dom’s 11, Westbrook 1
PORTLAND – Richie Paradis, Andrew Gwajanski and Harry Jacquith all netted two goals Tuesday night to lead St. Dom’s to a 11-1 rout over Westbrook in high school hockey action.
Sheldon Roy, Craig Michaud, Alex Tyburski, Tom Gosselin and Tyler Martin also tallied for the Saints (4-1-1). Nate Brown made 14 saves in net to record the win.
Joshua Caron tallied the lone goal for Westbrook, while Zack Joy turned aside 26 shots in between the pipes.
