OSSIPEE, N.H. (AP) – A former Girl Scout troop leader won’t serve jail time for stealing more than $7,400 from the group.

Natalie McClenning, 27, blamed postpartum depression for her actions two years ago. In a court hearing in Ossipee, she admitted writing checks to herself from the Swift River Council Girl Scouts.

McClenning has since paid back the money, and prosecutors said the council agreed to the plea deal to keep her out of jail. She will serve five years probation.

County Attorney Robin Gordon says the Girl Scouts were more interested in getting their money back than punishing McClennig with jail time.
