MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – For the second time in two weeks, authorities are looking for escapees from New Hampshire’s Youth Development Center.

Wednesday’s walkaways prompted Rod Forey, director of the state Juvenile Justice System, to halt all furloughs and any programming off the River Road campus.

Police describe two teens who walked away from jobs at the Veterans Administration Medical Center as threats to the community. They are Jordan Pinault and Joseph Cutter, both 16 and both from the Nashua area.

The two are believed to have slipped through a fire-escape door shortly before noon. Forey said both have substantial criminal records, including assaults.

Both had reached trusted status, taken successful weekend furloughs, and both were due to be released next week, Forey said.

Two weeks ago today, two 17-year-olds from Rochester bolted while returning to their cottages from kitchen duty. One has been caught.

Forey said a factor in the escapes may be concern about a pending move into a new building which will eliminate the need for detainees to walk around the campus.

“They’re concerned about that,” Forey said. The school, cafeteria, gymnasium, chapel, library and two residential units are already operating in the new facility. By Aug. 21, all detainees should be in the new facility, Forey said.

The center had 133 detainees as of Wednesday.
