NORWALK, Conn. (AP) – A former Wilton lawyer who was convicted of stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly client was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison.

Sheri Paige, 46, also was sentenced in Norwalk Superior Court to five years of special parole and fined $100,000.

Paige was convicted in March of five counts of larceny. She also was convicted of perjury, forgery and tampering with evidence.

The victim, Kriemhilde Byxbee, died in 2000 at age 84. Prosecutors said she had advanced dementia and was the victim of an elaborate fraud that robbed her of more than $300,000.

Paige claimed she received the cash as gifts and legal fees. Prosecutors rejected those claims, saying Byxbee was a frugal woman who barely knew the attorney.
