FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) – A Fitchburg teenager is facing a murder charge in connection with a shooting at a party in the city late Saturday night that left one person dead and three others injured, authorities said.
Xavier A. Santiago, 17, is scheduled to be arraigned in Fitchburg District Court on Tuesday on one charge of murder and three charges of armed assault with intent to murder, according to a statement from District Attorney John J. Conte. The shooting occurred about midnight on Saturday at a party attended by about 100 people at the Finnish Center at Saima Park. The party was in celebration of a 15th birthday, according to the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester.
Julio Colon, 24, was taken to Leominster Hospital where he later died, Conte said.
Angel Soto, 51; Jonathan Villot, 15; and Pedro Villot, 30, were all hospitalized.
All four victims are from Fitchburg.
Santiago was identified as a suspect by witnesses. He was taken to the Fitchburg Police Department for questioning on Sunday, after which he was arrested.
The investigation is continuing.
