NASHUA, N.H. (AP) – A man was charged with three counts of second-degree assault Wednesday, accused of shooting his 1-year-old daughter with a BB gun.

Donnell Harrison, 29, of Nashua, was originally charged with one count of second-degree assault, but police said that in addition to the shooting incident, he struck his daughters in April. The toddler was not seriously injured in the BB gun shooting, police said, but the pellet punctured her clothes. Police said Harrison shot the girl Tuesday at his apartment.

“The BB gun incident alone is inexcusable,” police prosecutor Cpl. Eden Gallant said. “The two other charges just add to the state’s concern that the defendant showed a total lack of common sense.”

Harrison, asking for low bail, said that he has never missed a court date and suffers from numerous psychological problems, including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. The judge said Harrison’s psychological problems were more reason to set high bail and ordered bail set at $20,000.

Harrison is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 17 for a probable cause hearing.
