RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) – The victim of a brutal beating in Proctor more than a week ago has died from his injuries in a New Hampshire hospital.
Leo John Turer, 30, of Rutland, died early Wednesday afternoon at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., where had been in a coma since he was assaulted while in his car.
He was found unconscious by police in a vehicle in Proctor on Oct. 2.
A Pittsford man, Lucas White, 19, was arrested three days later and charged in the beating. It was unclear whether authorities intended to seek more serious charges. A telephone message left for State Police Detective Lt. Tim Oliver was not immediately returned.
Oliver said in a police statement that Turer never regained consciousness, so police were unable to interview him. Police have not released any information about a possible motive.
