BOSTON (AP) – With the election mere days away, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deval Patrick picked up a number of newspaper endorsements Sunday, while Republican Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey garnered one.

Patrick was endorsed by several papers, including The Standard Times of New Bedford and the Sun Chronicle of Attleboro.

Healey, meanwhile, was endorsed by the Taunton Daily Gazette.

Both papers pointed to Patrick’s interest in local issues, such as fishing regulations and drug and gang-related violence in New Bedford.

“Deval Patrick stood out among the four (candidates) as well-versed on the issues and able to propose workable solutions for the region and the commonwealth,” according to The Standard Times’ editorial.

The Sun Chronicle said Patrick offered the greatest chance of uniting both political parties.

“He brings legal, business and political experience to a job which he envisions as being less about his being governor and more about all of us choosing a leader who will be a voice for the people,” the newspaper said.

, which pointed to her experience and her positions on the state income tax rate, immigration and education.

“Only one person gives Massachusetts the opportunity to charter a course that will keep our heads above the water in the short term and return the state to prosperity in the long run,” the newspaper wrote.

Independent candidates Christy Mihos and Green-Rainbow candidate Grace Ross also are on the ballot.
