WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) – Tom Brady Sr., despite a successful business career and a son with three Super Bowl rings, said his family is not immune to common societal problems.

“The Brady family journey has been similar to those of other families,” he told those attending a Worcester Diocese Catholic Men’s Conference on Saturday.

Brady said even his seemingly perfect son, New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Jr., has issues to deal with, according to the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester.

“He’s said, ‘Dad, I don’t have any problems on the field, but when I step off, that’s another story,”‘ Brady said, drawing some chuckles when he alluded to his son fathering a child with actress Bridget Moynahan, who is pregnant.

Brady and Moynahan split up late last year after a three-year relationship. Brady, a two-time Super Bowl MVP, has since been seen with model Gisele Bundchen.

The elder Brady said he wasn’t proud that some of his grandchildren were born out of wedlock, but said he’s “madly in love with them.”

“You have to live life with your feet on the ground and your heart in the air,” he said.

The 62-year-old Brady, who lives in San Mateo, Calif., and operates Tom Brady Financial Services in San Francisco, encouraged those in attendance to embrace their religious faith as an aid to overcoming problems.

But the former seminary student also referred to scandals involving sexual abuse by priests and clergy collaboration with Nazis in World War II and said, “These scandals, which are not just Catholic issues, take away from our faith and spirit.”

Event organizer Monsignor Thomas J. Sullivan said the conference has become increasingly popular. About 1,000 people attended Saturday’s event at the DCU Center.
