PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – Police and the U.S. Secret Service are investigating several reports of counterfeit $100 bills being circulated at area truck stops and gas stations.

Three counterfeit $100 bills were passed at Hanscom’s truck stop at 3:59 a.m. Wednesday, two on the northbound side of the Route 1 Bypass and one at the southbound station, Portsmouth Police Sgt. Frank Warchol said Wednesday.

In Kittery, Police Sgt. Russell French confirmed an unspecified number of bogus bills were passed at Howell’s truck stop, also southbound on the bypass. According to Portsmouth’s public police log, a suspect was interviewed in South Berwick, early Tuesday.
