BOSTON (AP) – Former Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey was turned down for a spot on the advisory board of Harvard University’s prestigious American Repertory Theater.
Robert Orchard, the theater company’s executive director told The Boston Globe Healey was the first nominee to the advisory board to be rejected since it opened in 1979. Healey lost to Gov. Deval Patrick by more than 20 percentage points in November.
“She would have been a superb board member,” Orchard said. “This is very disappointing to me.”
Steve Grossman, a past chairman of the Democratic National Committee and former candidate for governor, said he was the “catalyst” toward nominating Healey. He recommended her to Orchard because she had supported the company for many years.
Healey also told him she had produced plays while a Harvard student, he said.
“She could, I believe, have added in a meaningful way to the efforts of the American Repertory Theater to a build a company and support it,” Grossman said.
Healey could not be reached for comment Wednesday by The Associated Press.
