LONDONDERRY, N.H. (AP) – A former guard of an armored car company has been charged with stealing $20,000 from the business.

Police allege that Timothy McMahon, 30, of Nashua, stole the money from Loomis Fargo.

“We’ve recovered $13,500, but there is about $6,500 missing, and we’re trying to determine what he did with that,” Capt. Bill Hart said.

Investigators said Loomis Fargo noticed that cash was missing on April 5 and contacted police. According to authorities, McMahon took the $20,000 from a bin that he thought had not been inventoried.

“It’s my understanding that Mr. McMahon had complied with the internal checklist, saw what he thought was a cache of money, and it’s alleged he took that money,” Hart said.

Police said that after being confronted, McMahon initially denied the charge but then changed his story and cooperated with investigators.

McMahon was released on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 1.
