CONWAY, N.H. (AP) – A task force proposes establishing three small hospital units for psychiatric patients to replace the only existing one in the North Country, which is closing.

The new ones would be in Berlin, Conway and Littleton.

The two-bed secure psychiatric unit at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin is closing in June. It is the only emergency inpatient psychiatric unit north of Concord.

The proposed units would have 16 beds, 12 for voluntary patients and four for patients in crisis. The proposal depends on money in the proposed state budget.
