DURHAM, N.H. (AP) – A University of New Hampshire scientist suffered a hand injury Wednesday morning when a chemistry project produced an explosion.
“She is fine,” spokeswoman Kim Billings said. “She has injuries to her hand.”
She said the research scientist, who was not identified, was working on a project in Parsons Hall, the chemistry building, when a glass beaker she was holding blew up.
“The explosion was contained to a small beaker,” Billings said.
There was no fire, the building was not evacuated and and no one else was involved, Billings said.
Billings did not have the woman’s name and did not know yet what chemicals were involved.
The university reported details about the accident quickly, as calls came in from parents concerned there might have been some link to the campuswide bomb threat last week. That threat was determined to be a hoax.
