NORWAY – This year, Poets on the Porch will celebrate its fifth year as part of the Norway Summer Festival. It will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 7, on the Norway Library porch.
Anyone interested in reading at this event, hosted by Norway poet John Governale, should call 743-9808, or send an e-mail to m3d@megalink.net.
First held in 2003, Poets on the Porch combines the voices of a variety of area poets. Participating poets have ranged in age from 10 to 85 and come from every town in Oxford Hills. All of the work shared that day will be original.
“It’s the diversity of voices that satisfies most, the kind of local chorus they make,” said Lisa Moore of Harrison, founder and organizer of the event.
Expected poets so far, besides Moore and Governale, are Joanna Reese of Greenwood, Ben Hull of Norway, Eric Dibner of Casco, and Mary Hargreaves of South Paris.
If you’re not a poet, but enjoy poetry, you are welcome to come and listen. Poets on the Porch is free and is geared to all ages and varied literary tastes.

Many of the poets involved meet as the Mountain Poets Society to read and share poems at 7 p.m. the last Thursday of each month at the Fare Share Commons on Main Street. These informal meetings are open to all.
