We asked veteran dog trainer Diane Harrington a few questions about her obedience classes. Here are her responses:

1. How many dogs do you normally take in a beginner class?

About 15-20

2. How old do the dogs have to be?

I will accept them at 3½ months, but the average age is 5 months. All my classes are different. Some classes have all puppies.

3. Which breeds are the easiest to train?

The golden retriever and standard poodle.

4. Which are the most difficult to train?

The humans.

5. How often does class meet and what is the cost?

Classes are offered in the evening weekly for six weeks. The cost is $60, but that can vary some depending on where classes are held.

Classes are offered one after another year-round, with Harrington, who has taught dog obedience classes for 30-plus years, taking a few weeks off for summer vacation. Anybody interested in enrolling their puppy or dog in obedience class may call her at 784-7578.
