PITTSFORD, Vt. (AP) – A 16-year-old boy was killed after being trapped in a hay baler on the family farm, state police said.

Rescue personnel freed Jacob Billings from the baler on Wednesday evening, but he was declared dead at Rutland Regional Medical Center from massive trauma, state police said.

The family had used the baler for 10 years and Jacob was familiar with its operation, police said.

Jacob was a ninth-grader at Otter Valley Union High School in Brandon.

State police are continuing to investigate the incident.
