RANGELEY – The Rangeley Friends of the Arts will bring the Artful Dodger, Fagin, the menacing Bill Sikes, the kind-hearted Nancy, and Oliver back to the stage June 27-30. They will present the musical “Oliver!” – first performed locally in 1977 and again in 1987.
Based on Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist,” this British musical follows Oliver as he becomes entangled in a scenario of mystery, thievery and vengeance.
With music and lyrics by Lionel Bart, the play opened in London in 1960, and became the longest running production ever with 2619 performances until it was beaten by “Jesus Christ Superstar” 12 years later.
Among the show’s memorable tunes are “Food, Glorious Food,” “Boy for Sale,” “Where is Love?” and “I’d Do Anything.”
“Oliver!” will be staged at Lakeside Theater at 7 p.m. June 27, 28 and 29; and at 11 a.m. June 30.
Tickets, $15, are available at the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce at 864-5364.
